❓Flute Lesson FAQs❓

I just want to learn for pleasure, I don’t want to sit exams. Is that ok?

Absolutely. Although we do encourage students to sit exams when they’re ready, we realise that they’re not for everyone. Playing for pleasure should always be the first and foremost aim when learning a musical instrument.
As a registered Trinity exam centre, Sweet Symphony conducts all flute exams right here at our studio.

What’s the youngest age you start teaching from?

It all depends on the instrument – we begin our preschool piano lessons from age 3. For flute, we can start from age 4 with the student using the fantastic jFlute (read about this in our blog post here). If you don’t want to use a jFlute, we’d recommend lessons with a regular instrument from around age 8.

Are your flute lessons suitable for adult beginners, too?

Absolutely. Many of our students are adults who’ve always wanted to learn – or who are returning to music after years away.

Do you have a spare instrument that I can use before buying one?

Unfortunately, no. Due to hygiene reasons, we can’t lend out woodwind instruments to be used by students. If you’re looking for an instrument at a good price, we can recommend some local music retailers to help you purchase your flute ready for lessons.

What will I learn first?

We’ll start with posture, breathing and tone production before moving onto simple tunes you’ll recognise and love.

How soon can I play real songs?

Usually within your first few weeks! You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can make beautiful sounds with the right guidance.
